Each ACO PhD student must satisfy Georgia Tech’s doctoral minor requirement. For ACO students, the minor must include at least 9 credit hours of coursework and receive approval from the ACO Director. Courses in the ACO core curriculum may not be used as part of the minor. Students from the School of Mathematics are encouraged to do a minor in machine learning.
Choosing a Minor and ACO Approval
The minor should form a coherent area of study outside the ACO core. To obtain ACO approval for the minor, students should email their proposed minor to Santosh Vempala, the ACO Director. The proposal should include the proposed minor and, for each course in the minor, the following information:
- department, course number, and course title
- number of credit hours
- name of instructor
- semester taken
- grade received
After ACO Approval
After obtaining approval from the ACO Director, students must file the required doctoral minor paperwork through the graduate office in their home unit. Georgia Tech’s Doctoral Minor and related forms are available through Graduate Education.
